Rates range from £165 per night for a studio apartment to £2,000 for the three bedroom penthouse with panoramic views of Edinburgh.READ MORE
“It honestly feels like one of the proudest days of my life,” said Gavin MacLennan, general manager of luxury serviced apartment provider Lateral City , which runs The Edinburgh Grand and is part of the project’s Edinburgh-based developer, Chris Stewart Group.
“I feel so proud of everybody that’s worked so hard over two and a half years to get this open.”
The venue will bring 120 new jobs to the city and expand Lateral City’s workforce by 60 per cent.
The redeveloped former Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters on St Andrew Square is the culmination of four years’ work and marks the first phase of The Registers, an £85m project to regenerate the square’s south-east corner.
Key members of staff modelled their bespoke uniforms – designed by local tailors Stewart Christie & Co . The firm dates back to 1700 and has been a royal warrant holder since the time of King George V.
Original features in the 1942 Art Deco building include a neoclassical circular atrium, dark wood panelling, fireplaces and decorative cornicing. The Edinburgh Grand also has a restaurant, cocktail bar, lounge and private meeting space, while the original plate steel bank vaults have been reinvented as a modern on-site gym.
French-inspired Scottish restaurant The Bon Vivant will run the bar as The Register Club, a high-end champagne and cocktail lounge, while upmarket steakhouse Hawksmoor has chosen the venue for its second steak restaurant and bar outside London.READ MORE
The second half of The Registers project is the Mint Building, a speculative 60,000 sq ft office also being developed by Chris Stewart Group, on West Register Street next to The Edinburgh Grand.
